Fire-Earth-Fire: Tarot cards today
Mars in Taurus in The Fifth House
What’s the psychic snapshot, the zeitgeist today as translated via the Tarot? I have drawn three cards from the Astrology Reading Cards deck by Alison Chester-Lambert: Mars in Taurus in the Fifth House (ruled by Leo.)
Astrologically right now, we have fast moving Mars and Mercury in ultra-grounded Capricorn, ruler of governments banking and administration. But astrologically, these cards are not dissimilar in theme.
Here is the fire of Mars (with its vigour, positive energy-and potential for arguments or outright war) being expressed in real time in worldly affairs; land, property, religion, dogma and tradition.
Here is the fixed Earth of Taurus=The Hierophant, the card of land, tradition, Church, and like Capricorn it rules the Establishment/Government. The list of countries that are considered to be ruled astrologically by Taurus includes Yemen, and today Shell have announced they will be halting oil cargo shipping through the Red Sea.

Certain global tensions may well escalate or culminate until/during Leo season July/August 2024, or there may be, related to developments in the Red Sea, a turning point/pivotal event between now and the imminent Full Moon in Leo, 25 January 2024.
Fire-Earth-Fire, which one supposes could be pictured as a kind of a sandwich or a ring of fire could also suggest news to do with Earth tectonics, e.g; volcanic or earthquake activity between now and Leo season, or tying in with lunar events.
Such events are of course permanently ongoing and constantly monitored. The largest in the NW Pacific so far in 2024 was in Canada 8 January, measuring 4.3 and in the South Pacific, an earthquake measuring 7/1 a month ago.
But again, on this same theme of Fire-Earth-Fire, or Earth surrounded by/sandwiched/trapped by Fire…here is another news article published today, 16/1/2024 in The Guardian:-
A daring operation is being launched to rescue more than 200 sheep left to their fate by farmers after a volcanic eruption near the evacuated Icelandic town of Grindavik.
With molten lava setting homes ablaze and the ground surface cracking, rescue teams are seeking to bring out an estimated 270 animals from their fields and indoor pens.
The animals, who have not been fed or watered for days, had not initially been designated a priority. Animal welfare campaigners raised the alarm after seeing footage of expensive machinery being taken from the danger area rather than the sheep….

On an individual level
This line of cards stands in token of an assertive, upbeat, can-do energy. We may be looking to do something new and fresh and bold. This is a time for considered action, small steps, but this could prove an auspicious period for finding new ways and means for pro-actively advancing a personal creative work project, and turning it into tangible results e.g; turning a book into sales, buying or selling a house, or artwork or finding a new outlet for fresh produce. It is a hard-headed energy. That individualistic Fifth house card is great for small businesses, and for the rigor required for academic study and publishing excellence.
But we must be careful not to vent any frustrations right now, not to burn bridges, scorching the earth as we hoof the turf, Mars Ram or Taurus Bull alike, working ourselves up ready to charge out of the gate.
While we’re all watching the Red Sea…and watching Wall Street….
Fire-Earth-Fire…no doubt some of us are fielding seasonal influenza or other illnesses right now, and dealing with managing a temperature.
Nothing could sound, or indeed be less exciting in a reading than a mention of paracetamol or lemon water or tepid sponging. I am dealing with a touch of toothache just now, and clove oil is useful; pretty effective, though not remotely exciting.
It’s nothing. I’m living with heart failure but it’s not terminal. I have lived 30 years with rheumatoid arthritis, but I have been blessed with a Taurean constitution, and I count my many blessings besides. I am deeply thankful and grateful not to be partaking in any of the world’s greater excitements right now.
The Tarot card incidentally, that is generally associated with either toothache, or needing to see an optician is the Two of Swords.
