Loved your explanation for Halloween and Samhain, my ancestral New Year from birth in Ireland. I was born on the Winter Solstice 22nd Dec. I also loved the ghost story, having had my own experience. This ghost or image in particular was solid. i used to attend ballroom dancing class and was fully dressed for a Viennese ballgown for a waltz, hurrying across a street in the Strand in London near John Adam Street. A splendid coach and horses came down the street. I thought it was a Dunhill coach or something for advertising. It stopped and a gentleman in a tall hat and Victorian clothes alighted, smiled at me and tipped his hat, and disappeared up steps into a huge building. I smiled back, delighted at the spectacle and hurried to the class. Only afterwards, after class, I realized the building was not there, only Top Shop and Chelsea Girl and no steps and no huge building. It was a shock. I forgot about it. a few months later, in the same place, I saw the coach again but this time it went past amongst all the traffic, solid as anything. Recently my son researched and found the building and the gentleman who lived there. He was a political satirist and cartoonist who lived in England and in America. There was a painting of him as a younger man. I immediately knew it was him. I wondered if it was more of a glimpse through a vortex in time. Because I was dressed appropriately neither of us was startled and I just thought he was in costume. xx
