Today the moon is in the zodiac sign of the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn. The Tarot, like Astrology, like all the Divinatory Arts, like Painting and Sculpture, like Literature, like Film, is a cultural artifact dealing in the meaning of fact, truth and poetic truth.
“Be thine own palace, or the world's thy jail” -John Donne

A Capricorn Moon represents the element and quality of cardinal Earth. Our power as a creature rooted in earth. I shall be exalted in the earth.
“They wouldn’t say boo to a goose”. Never mind saying boo to a goose. Just say it. Say boo. I saw a most beloved ghost last Tuesday night, the day before the Full Moon in the zodiac sign of Sagittarius, the psychopomp, safe escort to the dead, the farthest Archer of the Milky Way. This ghost was unexpected but welcome, and would never be denied access. But should we ever meet a ghost or encounter some other kind of non-quantifiable thing we really do not like, Say boo. Order it gone. GET. OUT!
I have, over the past 25 years, three times had cause to do this myself. And it worked. Twice, the footsteps stopped outside my open door. The other “thing” (a so-called jinn or djinn?) January 2020- notable perhaps for astrologers stared back, came closer, cocked its head then faded away.
Assertion of Earth power. They underestimate that power in the horror movies. But they do not underestimate the power of fear. What is beyond our ken does have obvious great advantages in any putative confrontational situation: not least te advantage of surprise, to say the least. The Devil card represents fear among many other things, and it also correlates in timing questions with Capricorn. Image is from the Smith Waite Centennial Tarot deck. But this card is also the power of Earth…where the Devil is trappings of earthly power and the power of early desires. (The Tarot deck as we know it today began its published life as a cultural artifact in Christian Europe. The Visconti-Sforza deck, hand drawn and used in Milan, Italy, in the 15th century is the oldest known surviving deck, with 35 cards surviving.)
As Martin Luther most famously said, and it could well have cost him his life, the only one we are guaranteed in this moment, “here I stand. I can do no other, help me God. Amen.”
Here we stand.
Sunflower
Sunflower stands and track the sun
From Dawn until the light is gone
A patient and a hopeful eye
In adoration of the sky
Alone she stands
In countless fields of fellowship
With other suns of earthly gold
Their arms outstretched
For light’s sure hold
And rich with cargo, every one
Built strong with sugar from the sun
They are etched with frosts
Cold winds of loss
But comfort comes with Hesperus
The Evening Star’s deliverance
The faintest and the farthest light
Still resurrects a phoenix in the night
And ancient suns long cold and gone
Still say, your story isn’t done

Thank you for reading.
Back soon.
Funny you should mention Djinn (for those who don’t know the term - they’re called Genies 🧞♀️)
Back to what I was saying..in 2017, I encountered a Djinn, he “visited” for about 3 days. I did not like the energy surrounding him and he made me very fearful. I too, had to tell him Be GONE. Why I waited to do this? I was curious to feel his energy. Crazy story, I know, but true.🥺🥴
Thanks Katie, good to know the origins of the Tarot deck, especially if you’re learning to give readings.
