Wonderfully thoughtful and thorough overview! I confess I prefer the first method but also lean on the planetary assignments in the Tree of Life. So (for example) when the Five of Wands shows up, I’ll always be looking for that streak of martial energy.
Thank you very much for reading and commenting, Gabriel. And I completely agree. The Five of Wands is unarguably combative, whatever the deck. I have experienced too often that the most astonishing and "out there" psychic hits have arisen spontaneously via associative thinking, based purely on the presenting imagery, and especially so in the dynamic push and pull, sitting with the other person across the table. Waiting so expectantly, as you so well illustrate and discuss in one of your own recent posts. I discovered the decans much later in my practise, and began with the Chaldean system. I liked the idea of starting as close as possible to the point of origin so to speak. Something almost but didn't quite gel for me. In terms of systems of interpretation, I am averse to making binary choices, but found I needed to, for the avoidance of confusion, get that synapse sorted.
