Thank you friend Wildflower. The "ordinary" people of Britain have spoken, more than once, when provided with the democratic apparatus to do so. But their voice has not been respected or honoured. It has been circumvented, right in front of their eyes, with insults added into the mix of injuries, and they have not received equitable justice in many a year. There is a new class war going on, and it has been building since way before 2016. There is criminality in the mix, of course. Just as with all such civil disturbances, and we saw that too during the George Floyd riots. And it is disgusting. But it is way too simple- dishonest, disingenuous, and far too convenient for our ruling establishment in Whitehall and in MSM to demonize these protesters as a whole. There is a deep and long simmering grievance of social injustice. This is no blip.
I wish there was a way, for both our countries, that the sides could wish each other peace and love and just start over. I know I sound like a sixties flower child (which I was), but getting this old and seeing it all come around again, I see how wasteful and unnecessary it truly is.
Maybe someday I can visit your country and see its history up close. Maybe in more peaceful times.
The murders of the little girls and the sorrow of their loved ones hardly bears contemplation. This has been the spark that has struck the tinder. It is by no means the first such kind of event. Many of the public feel there is a wilful and politically motivated lack of honesty in the reporting, and they are then painted as racist . I can see Southport from here where I live, the other side of the Ribble estuary. We know that place where this horrible, evil thing happened. Be that as it may, in historical terms- because everything is connected and a landscape contains many many stories, once upon a time the Romans sailed up this same river, first as invaders, in conquest, then in trade, and they stayed 400 years until they were recalled to Rome for its defense. But by then they were Romans who no longer even knew Rome. Great cycles, as you truly say.
